Be The Futurist (9)

The future discussed not only in class but around the world is constantly evolving throughout time. Exponentially speaking, it is evolving at such a rapid pace that we may have many technological advancements in roughly around 10 years. Trying to see into the future, many of its' characteristics boast both wonderful things for humanity. However not everything is great, as there are also horrible things that can come out of the future. To start off with this topic, something that I have in mind that may seem grim for us in the future is AI. I do not believe that it will take over the world like in many other science fiction movies, books and TV Shows. Due to such technological advancements however, it's use throughout the world can pose as a problem. Deepfakes for example, can be used with ill intent and to harm individuals' reputation, status and career. Many deepfakes look obvious that it is not legitimate but some of the edits that have been made and posted around the world seem convincing enough that it almost feels like the person is actually speaking. My worst thought about it is that someone could pose as someone else and say things that should not be said in order to ruin someone's life. Not only celebrities are in danger of this but many other people that have social media can be if there is enough footage to get a reference off of. With the advancements of technology, references may turn into one simple photo compared to having many in order to have the deepfake seem realistic. In contrast with the bad, there is also good that can be found in the advancement of technology. Medical conditions such as the inability to talk or to hear can finally be relieved and be something of the past. People that can not talk can use a type of device that allows them to emulate their words and pronounce it the way someone else would with vocal cords. The technology is there, but it is very primitive and early in it's life for it to be convincing that it can go off as a real voice. It can go the same way with hearing, the technology is there for those that are unable to hear but it is also very early in it's stages. To sum up the positive, many medical conditions that have the person unable to do anything a normal person can do will allow them to live and have the same advantages using new and profound tech.
